Japan is a country whose people, plants and animals, food and culture are most clearly shaped by its unique connection to nature. It is surrounded by the Sea, specifically the rich and plentiful South China Sea and the Pacific Blue Ocean. Japan's gardens are designed to manage water flow utilizing gravity and stone and wood to channel in diverse ways, as snowfall rushes down to the Sea through its varied habitat of people, flora and fauna. If you do not see this connection, you are missing reality and the Truth Arrows of the experience of Japan. The Cherry Blossoming period is a true reflection of the fleeting passage of time, and also a symbol of rugged determination to survive: Long twisted gnarly branches on centuries old cherry trees, produce delicate blossoms that inexplicably point downwards, as if in some sort of interractive quantum reality with the observer.
